It is pretty easy to see why Sandstone has been named the
“First City of the North Woods.”
If you’re traveling north through Minnesota you’ll notice a few changes in the landscape as you approach the Sandstone area. First off there’s a lot more trees, if fact you’ll find yourself surrounded in northern forest.

Located right on the “scenic and wild” Kettle River, with Banning State Park to the North, south and East – Sandstone MN is surrounded by nature. To the West is Grindstone Lake and the Audubon Center of the North Woods.
